Our skills, expertise and structure reflect our role to regulate, influence and promote the UK oil and gas industry, working effectively with the industry and other stakeholders to maximise the economic recovery of UK oil and gas. From geoscientists and petroleum engineers, to commercial specialists and policy experts, our people come from a wide range of background and sectors.
Our key directorates
Led by Gunther Newcombe, Director of Operations, this directorate is responsible for the overall stewardship of oil and gas exploration, production and decommissioning on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS). It oversees the asset stewardship process, development of area plans and the use of technology on the UKCS, working closely with operators and licensees to maximise economic recovery (MER UK).
Led by Tom Wheeler, Director of Regulation, this directorate is responsible for the effective licensing of the UK’s offshore and onshore oil and gas resources, and manages the consenting process for offshore exploration and production activities. It also oversees the OGA’s use of the regulatory powers and sanctions it has to support MER UK and the process for resolving disputes on the UKCS.
Led by Hedvig Ljungerud, Director of Strategy, this directorate is responsible for the development of policy and economic analysis in support of MER UK. It oversees the Authority’s communication and external affairs activities, working closely with government, the industry and wider stakeholders. It also oversees planning, performance and reporting within the OGA and our legal and governance activities
Led by Stuart Payne, Director of HR and Supply Chain, this directorate is responsible for the development and capability of the OGA organisation, including health, safety and environmental management. It is also the Authority’s focal point for engagement on culture change within the industry, working with operating and service sector companies to promote greater collaboration.
Led by Nicola Granger, Chief Financial Officer, this directorate is responsible for financial accounting and control within the OGA, including internal audit, statutory financial reporting, procurement and contract management. It is also oversees implementation of the Authority’s information management and information technology activities.
